Ninatrans equips 100% of its fleet with Trimble
Ninatrans equips 100% of its fleet with Trimble Ninatrans is a transport company that has always been at the forefront of telematics solutions. The Leuven-based company has just harmonized its fleet management by equipping all its trucks with Trimble equipment. One of the reasons for Ninatrans’ success in the time-critical transportation market are the choices it has made in terms of innovation and technology. This has especially been the case since current CEO Benny Smets took over the reins of the company in 1993. Recently, he decided to equip the entire fleet (300 trucks) with Trimble telematics solutions: all Ninatrans trucks are equipped with a new on-board computer and a new tablet. “With the various acquisitions we made, we had several telematics systems,” Benny Smets explains. “After an extensive, objective investigation into the best technology, Trimble – which Ninatrans has been using for more than 20 years – still came out on top. In addition to basic functions such as navigation, drivers always have the right information available via the tablet about the goods being transported, agreed delivery dates and related documents. All this information must be properly provided to drivers and must be available at all times. able to provide quick and efficient feedback on delivery status, with intelligent data sharing providing additional transparency. The most important thing about the technology is the ease of use it brings to drivers.” Benny Smets also emphasizes the positive impact of Trimble’s solutions on safety: “The software maps performance and analyzes driver behavior. The video intelligence function of the on-board computer also evaluates the data and provides tips for improvement. It also ensures that driving and rest periods are respected. Finally, we see Trimble as a forerunner in data management and in the integration of new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence. Automatic data collection makes our performance measurable. You can collect a lot of data, but I often compare data to crude oil. Trimble helps us convert that crude oil into usable fuel. For example, we know at any time the location and status of each shipment, the loading, unloading and transit times, and the speed at which deliveries are processed. We also know in real time what the costs and margins are for each shipment, which is crucial in an industry where efficiency and results are all-important.”

All Road International (ARI) is a family-run transport and logistics company based in Düren, Germany. Over the past decades, ARI has built up a stable and loyal customer base. Managing director Andreas Reul (80) will soon take a well-deserved retirement. Thanks to this transfer to Ninatrans, he is optimistic about the future of ARI. All Road International will continue to operate as an independent business unit. Michael and Nicole Reul, the founder’s children, and Amin Karrakchou will continue to have an active management role within All Road International. ARI will make use of the expertise and innovations within the Ninatrans group, with the various transport entities also reinforcing each other operationally. The trucks not only offer a smooth driving experience, but also an emission-free solution that is in line with both companies’ sustainability goals. “With these trucks we want to lead the way in emission-free road transport,” says Stijn Verbeeck, Physical Operations Director at DHL. Together with David Bellon, Head of Airfreight Belgium, he emphasizes the pride in being among the first in the industry. David Bellon adds, “Sustainability is one of the strategic pillars for DHL. The goal is to completely decarbonize our operations by 2050. One way we do this is by investing in initiatives like this one. We are proud to have the largest fleet of electric vehicles in the logistics sector and the highest share of sustainable jet fuel (SAF) of any airline worldwide in 2023. This is the beginning of a promising journey together with Ninatrans.” DHL and Ninatrans continue to work together and look forward with anticipation to further developments in electric vehicles. While these first trucks will travel their routes in Brussels, both companies are already planning the next steps to realize their shared vision of sustainable logistics. Benny Smets emphasizes the strategic role of this innovation: “This is a logical next step for Ninatrans, which has been investing in sustainable solutions for years. The experience we gain with these first electric vehicles will help us support our customers in their future choices towards more green solutions for transporting their goods. In doing so, we are looking at all possibilities, ranging from electric over HVO and Bio-LNG to hydrogen solutions.” Charging of these vehicles will take place at DHL’s site. Investment is also being made in a 180 kW DC fast charger on the Ninatrans site in Leuven that will allow an electric truck to be charged within 3 hours.

Ninatrans creates branch in Spain
Ninatrans creates branch in Spain Ninatrans creates branch in Spain A few days ago Ninatrans established a new subsidiary called Ninatrans Iberia. This allows the company to further expand its time-critical air freight traffic between the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of the European continent, but it also reflects the increased ambitions of the Leuven-based company. In addition to its national transport activities, Ninatrans is currently active in air cargo transport from the airports of Brussels and Liège in Belgium, Leipzig in Germany, Prague in the Czech Republic, Bratislava in Slovakia and now Madrid in Spain. The specialty is “time-critical” cargo transport by road between these important airports. “Madrid is an interesting place to locate because it is the gateway to Europe for many goods from Latin America,” CEO Benny Smets explains. “We got a lot of requests for this, so we opened our first office in Madrid. This will allow us to offer transport services between Madrid and the other major European airports. Initially we will outsource these flows to subcontractors, but our ambition is to have our own fleet in Spain. I plan to achieve this goal by acquiring some local company, and several possibilities are currently being discussed.” Ninatrans’ air freight network is thus expanding significantly, and the CEO’s ambition is clear: Ninatrans is now aiming at the European top, which is currently dominated by the Dutch group Jan De Rijk and the Luxembourg group Wallenborn. https://transportmedia.be/2023/11/ninatrans-creeert-filiaal-in-spanje/
